Specialized Utility for eRoom to CenterStage Migration

EMC released a beta version of its new Knowledge Worker client - CenterStage Essentials to Documentum customers in September, 2008. This collaboration solution is meant to eventually replace the eRoom product though EMC is committed to supporting the product with regular feature upgrades and maintenance releases for many years to come. CenterStage is an enhanced client interface that is fully integrated into the Documentum 6 Content Server. It supports "web 2.0" collaborative features like wikis, blogs and social networking. With CenterStage, all content is managed in Documentum, where it falls under Documentum's governance, lifecycle and security controls. Whether you have hundreds or thousands of eRooms, these new collaborative features consolidated within a Documentum environment will boost productivity and stimulate growth, all while enhancing control.

With help from Crown Partners, current eRoom customers have a safe and secure upgrade path to the new platform. EMC commissioned Crown to develop a content bridge, called RedCarpet, which is fully customized for this movement. It will be available beginning in mid-October to eRoom customers who upgrade to the CenterStage Beta edition, called CenterStage Essentials.

Enabling a graceful transition from eRoom is an important part of EMC’s plans for CenterStage. The synchronization between CenterStage and RedCarpet is planned out for each CenterStage release until all eRoom objects are accommodated in CenterStage and can be moved with RedCarpet; full eRoom feature parity will be reached with the CenterStage Pro D7 release as the following demonstrates:

CenterStage Pro 1.0 (Q1, 2009) - workspaces, threaded discussions, room templates, folders, note items, access control, versioning and drag 'n drop to desktop
CenterStage Pro 1.5 (Q2, 2009) - data tables, calendars, etc.
CenterStage Pro D7 (Q4, 2009) - recycle bin, email inbox and more

RedCarpet is a limited edition of Crown Buldoser, the leading extract, transform and load solution for EMC Documentum. EMC recommends that customers who are performing a full upgrade from eRoom to CenterStage Pro use the full Buldoser product, which will make such a bulk transition fast and painless.
