The Challenge
Today’s competitive organizations depend on their company websites to get ahead. And that means delivering engaging, effective websites that every end user can view as intended. But companies are challenged to keep up with the changing web technologies. Numerous web browsers and operating systems used today to view websites can affect how websites display. What’s more, these tools are regularly updated, further altering the appearance and functionality of some websites.
Internally, companies are tasked with maintaining their dynamic websites—sometimes dozens or even hundreds of sites with ever-changing content. Many are also busy creating new websites. To maintain the look and feel of their sites across browsers, browser versions, and operating systems, companies need an efficient, repeatable process from experts in web content management systems.
Crown Solution
Crown Partners offers the perfect solution for maintaining the consistency of website display across browsers and operating systems. Crown’s Cross-Browser Certification provides you an efficient, repeatable, reliable, and scalable model for ensuring website consistency in today’s variable web environment. We’ll even operate this model throughout the process—all at a reasonable cost.
We have deep experience in cross-browser certification, with a history of developing top-notch external sites for companies of all sizes in various industries, along with expertise in browser certification of client web products. Through our rich experience, we’ve devised a best-practices approach to certifying websites. With Cross-Browser Certification, you can count on a consistent web impression for your customers.
Crown Partners makes the certification process easy for you, requiring minimal input and assistance from you during the process. You’ll simply:
-
Identify Site(s) – Identify the site or set of sites to certify. You can save setup costs, monitoring costs, and resource allocation time by processing groups of sites.
-
Estimate Pages – Estimate the total number of pages for testing. You’ll want to test all top-level and landing pages, as well as representative pages from leaf-level content, such as press releases, product pages, and other pages that are chiefly content. For small sites, you might test all pages.
-
Identify Source Browser/Operating System – The source browser/operating system combination identifies what the site should look like.
-
Identify Target Browser/Operating System – Identify target browser/operating system combinations for the sites to test. Crown can assist with this step, if needed.
-
Select Testing and Fix Options – Select basic or enhanced certification, and add-ons such as CSS, HTML, and JavaScript fixes.
-
Approve Estimate and Work Request – Approve or decline the estimate, or ask for adjustment of the assumptions or deadline. Crown will then schedule the browser certification job and begin the work.
-
Update WCMS with Fix Content – You’ll use the certification results to make the necessary changes to your web content management system to complete full certification.
Crown Partners provides everything else:
-
Calculate Testing and Fix Estimates – Crown provides a certification estimate based on the estimates and options selected, and includes costs for infrastructure setup, testing, cosmetic fixes, template updates, and process management.
-
Set Up Infrastructure – We’ll schedule resources, create the testing repository, set up automated testing assistance tools such as BrowserCam, establish the browser/operating system combinations for break-fix development and testing, and more.
-
Identify Common Page Types – We’ll use information about standard site layouts and templates to assist with estimating the testing cost and duration, and for help in conducting fixes.
-
Execute Basic Tests – Basic tests include the comparison of files to be tested on a target browser/operating system combination with the source browser/operating system combination. Our offshore testing resources help reduce costs, and automated testing tools allow comparison without expensive infrastructure or excessive manual clicking.
-
Log Test Issues in Testing Repository – We’ll log any issues in Crown’s testing repository, including the URL of the page, the error type, and the error details.
-
Remediate Exceptions and store in Testing Repository – During the testing process, break-fix resources who are highly skilled in HTML and CSS certification will pop exceptions from the testing repository queue and develop a set of changes for resolving the problem across all target browser/operating system combinations. (optional)
-
Compile Fixes into XSL Templates, JS, and CSS Files – When testing and break-fixes are complete, we’ll compile the fixes for each page type, and then update and test the appropriate XSL template, CSS, or JavaScript file. We’ll perform these updates offline to avoid impacting the development, test, or production site. (optional)
-
Compile Final Certification Report – Once the entire site certification and break-fix updates are completed, we’ll create a certification report and upload it to the testing repository.
-
Present Report and Fix Content to Customer – We’ll present this detailed report and review the most common exceptions and the break-fix content itself.
-
Monitor Testing Process and Compile Status Reports – Throughout the testing and break-fix process, a project coordinator oversees the progress and generates weekly status reports. They also serve as your content and escalation point for questions or issues.
