Malcolm is originally from the Hudson River Valley of New York State.  Born in Columbia County, Malcolm soon lived in Westchester, before attending Union College in Schedectady.

Malcolm graduated from Union College with a major in Computer Science and a minor in German language. After six months, he was growing tired of programming in C language at Auomatech Graphics Corporation, and his technical and language ability brought him to Nixdorf Computer Corporation. Upon completing his M.B.A in Marketing and International Business at New York University, Malcolm sold his co-op apartment in Park Slope Brooklynand moved to Massachusetts to join Digital Equipment Corporation. At Digital he created and marketed solutions for the intelligent network. He joined an internal team to transform Digital’s AI technology research center into a knowledge-based solutions profit center.  As a part of the Knowledge-Based Solutions Group, Malcolm evangelized and managed the development of the telecom fraud solution which put him on a world tour, and the solution became a world-wide leader when he forged a partnership with GTE Telecom Services.

Stemming from part-time research with Zvi Griliches at Harvard University, Malcolm joined Renaissance Strategy Group, where he worked closely with David Norton, co-author of “The Balanced Scorecard”. At Renaissance, Malcolm worked extensively with AT&T on market introduction of emerging network services. He then pioneered work on knowledge communities and created a consulting practice which delivered strategic benefits under Malcolm’s direction at AT&T relating to customer service and Mobil Oil Company relating to refinery maintenance and retail operations.

After the sale of Renaissance to the Registry, Malcolm was hired by Documentum where he led the introduction of new practices for solution delivery and headed the central region services organization. While at Documentum, and after Documentum was acquired by EMC, Malcolm was asked to take responsibility for the North American strategic accounts business. He personally oversaw extended engagements with Abbott Laboratories and Ford Motor Company that led to new centralized enterprise information infrastructure and enabled accelerated product introduction.
